Discussion in German radio program “SWR2 Forum” - Are insects an alternative for meat?   [08.02.18]

Are insects an alternative for meat? Prof. Regina Birner discussed this questions in the German radio program “SWR2 Forum” on Wednesday, 24 January 2018. During talk, she discussed with gastrosopher and cultural scientist, Dr. Harald Lemke and food technician, Dr. Birgit Rumpold. The discussion took place against the background of a new law by the European Union that allows the production of insects within Europe. Enthusiasts have argued that eating insects could reduce the high levels of meat consumption in Europe, which are harming both our environment and our health. But is the production of insects actually environmentally friendly? Would people eat them? And would this contribute to a reduction of meat consumption?
